The relationship between drugs and the environment and their respective harmful effects on health and nature have received greater attention over the past few years, mainly due to scientific work that indicated their detection in samples of sewage effluent, surface water or groundwater. The objective of this work was to analyze the reverse logistics of medicines. This research is characterized as bibliographic research, descriptive, followed by a case study of the pharmaceutical network in the municipality of Jaboticabal, in the interior of the State of São Paulo, Brazil. This work identified the main factors that may influence the reverse logistics of drugs. Among the best-selling drugs are analgesics and antibiotics. Regarding the profile of consumers, the majority are women aged 40-49 years. About 50% of customers are not informed about the need to return unserviceable drugs, and when this occurs the concern with the environment was the central argument. By introducing the theme to the population and to the generating establishments of the cities, it is expected the awareness about the importance of the reverse logistics of medicines, being this a possible alternative to reduce the impacts generated by the incorrect disposal of these medicines.
