INTELLIGENT TASK AUTOMATION SYSTEM FOR INVENTORY MANAGEMENT IN RETAIL CHAINS: an applied case study

Abstract

Stockouts, price inaccuracies, and expired products on shelves represent recurrent challenges in supermarket retail management. This study presents the development and application of an intelligent automation system designed to identify and correct these failures, implemented in a national supermarket chain. The solution was built on the Oracle Database platform, using SQL/PLSQL routines for data processing and auditing, with a Spring Boot (Java) backend to automate tasks through triggers and scheduled jobs. The project lasted seven months and involved a multidisciplinary team from technology, operations, and retail management. The implemented automation integrated into daily operations, enabling real-time monitoring of critical data including expiration dates, inventory levels, and pricing. Beyond reducing operational errors, the system contributed to standardizing procedures, increasing team efficiency, improving customer experience, and reinforcing compliance with health and commercial regulations. The study highlights the strategic role of technology in the digital transformation of Brazilian retail and suggests directions for future innovations in automated management.
